HISTORY: The American Numismatic Society (ANS) was officially formed on April 6, 1858, in New York City by a group of collectors and scholars. This medal commemorates the 100th anniversary of the society.

OBVERSE: The obverse depicts the opening of the die to witness the coin just struck. This medal is signed “LFC.”

REVERSE: The reverse illustrates the casting of the coin in a die with Pegasus in the smoke, implying the coin design.
