EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE PAX, 1889

M010

Brass gilt, advertising watch fob with loop

31 mm (1-3/16”), 20 grams

OBVERSE: A laborer, seated on an anvil as La Liberté places a laurel wreath upon his head, looks down at the shining, completed Expo below, with the Eiffel Tower at the right.

REVERSE: “RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE.” An angel, blowing a trumpet beneath a shining star, leans against the branch of an oak tree, pillar and bust of France. This medal was presented to N. J. Schloss & Co., a New York City garment manufacturer headed by brothers Nathan and Henry, probably clothing suppliers to the Exposition.
