HISTORY: Italy in 1848 was a tumultuous time with the population revolting against papal authority. The revolt was short-lived.

OBVERSE: Picturing a seated Neptune on left and Justitia on right, both holding a cornucopia representing abundance. Justitia is also holding a scale of justice and Neptune a paddle.

REVERSE: A red stamp with the Venice Lion (winged lion of St. Mark), “CONTROLERIA 1848.”
