LES JOURNÉES MÉDICALES DE BRUXELLES, 1926

M318

Bronze, AU

64 mm (2-1/2”), 105.8 grams

HISTORY: An Exposition Internationale was held in Paris between April and October of 1925, in which Belgium entered a pavilion to showcase the country’s advances in art and architecture, science and medicine. This medal was most likely awarded to participants of that successful exposition. Unfortunately, we will never know the recipient of this beautiful medallic piece.

OBVERSE: “LES JOURNEES MEDICALES DE BRUXELLES” (Brussels Médical Days) from “1926.” A winged Victoria, Roman goddess of victory, reclines across this medal, clutching both a palm frond and laurel wreath in her right hand, while sounding a triumphant trumpet with her left. Behind her right shoulder is a statuette of Saint Michael slaying the devil dragon.

REVERSE: “EXPOSITION INTERNATIONALE – SCIENCES – MEDICALES – BEAUX-ARTS” surrounded by a wreath of oak branches.

EDGE: Smooth.
