HISTORY: The medal was designed by Abram Belskie (1907–1988), British-born sculptor who relocated to the United States in 1929. Belskie was acclaimed for his medals and sculpture, particularly related to anatomy and the medical profession. His work is preserved and exhibited in Closter, NJ, at the Belskie Museum of Arts and Science.

REVERSE: The reverse is “GENESIS” (in Hebrew) and “IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH” (Genesis 1:1) encircles the medal. Lower right quadrant signed “ABRAM BELSKIE SC.”

OBVERSE: “HALL OF FAME FOR GREAT AMERICANS 19©65” and “AT NEW YORK UNIVERSITY” encircle the medal and feature the portrait of “PHILLIPS BROOKS” (1835–1893), theologian, preacher, and author of the song, O Little Town of Bethlehem.
