OBVERSE: Pictured is a traditional Congolese wood carving of a woman seated next to her water vase she has removed from her head. Along the top of the currency is “RÉPUBLIQUE POPULAIRE DU CONGO” followed by “CINQ CENTS FRANCS” in the center. To the left of the statue is a watermark (see Detail) and the date “1-01-1990.”
REVERSE: The reverse features an artisan woodcarver working on a traditional mask reproduction, with a couple of completed pieces at his side. At the top of this currency is “BANQUE DES ETATS DE L’AFRIQUE CENTRALE.” On the right is the back side of the watermark nestled among additional wood carved objects d’art.
