CONGRESSO NACIONAL DE MEDICINA IV, BY MARIA IRENE LIMA DE MATOS VILAR, 1980

HISTORY: Medal prepared for the IV Congresso National De Medicina held in Lisbon between the 7^th and 12^th of September 1980.

OBVERSE: The inscription on the obverse indicates that the Banco Português do Atlântico was a contributor of the conference. Sculpted by the distinguished Portuguese artist Maria Irene Lima de Matos Vilar (1930–2008) the obverse shows her love of the play between light and darkness, intensif,ying our visual experience.

REVERSE: The reverse shows the caduceus (entwined serpent around a standard), a depiction of the Ordem dos Médicos logo. Vilar’s work is on display worldwide in her sculptures, medals, coins, and paintings.
