OBVERSE: “REPUBLIQUE DU DAHOMEY” (1960–1975), now the Republic of Benin. This is one of three coins issued for Dahomey’s 10th anniversary of nationhood. Several years later, they were to fall to a repressive dictatorship, “People’s Republic of Benin,” which collapsed the economy.
REVERSE: “FEMME OUÉMÉ,” a young tribal woman, single and ripe for marriage.
