HISTORY: Centennial Coin Program, International Olympic Committee, France (1994). Series III, THE FIRST CONGRESS. Commemorating the First Olympic Congress, this coin depicts the “Discobolus,” one of the most famous Greek statues, dating back to the 5th century BC. The background is the Defence Arch in Paris, built in 1989 to commemorate the bicentennial of the French Revolution and the site of the 1994 Olympic Congress. Coin designed by J. Jimenez (signed on reverse).
